Boulce

Boucle

Boucle Fabric is best described as fabric woven or knitted with boucle yarns.  Boucle yarns are produced from a number of different loops – some which feature large circlets, and others that feature tiny curls. When two strands – at least – are combined, the weaver must keep tension on one strand, with the other strand kept untaught as it is plied. From there, the loose strand should form new loops, allowing the second strand to act as an anchor.

As you can see, the process to produce boucle yarn is quite intensive and meticulous, and it can take quite a great deal of time to complete. However, the reward is always readily available to see as soon as a bolt of boucle fabric is produced.

WHAT IS BOUCLE FABRIC USED FOR?

Boucle fabric is commonly found in a number of different combinations with other fabrics. Most often, boucle fabric – or boucle yarn – is used to accent these other fabrics. For instance, one could find delicate and luxurious boucle yarn used as the trim for their new sofa or side chair. Another person might find some boucle yarn woven into their Jacquards to provide added dimension and texture.

Boucle fabric is quite common, even if you’ve never heard of it before! Essentially, it is used to create a multi-layered fabric that can be used to give another piece of textile more detail.
